MOSCOW, August 11. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump said that Russia has released Robert Gilman from custody.

Earlier, Reuters citing a US administration official and the Associated Press said Gilman was released for health reasons.

TASS has compiled the key facts about the release.

- Trump said Russia has released Gilman.

- According to Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin released Gilman on a humanitarian basis, without exchanging him for a Russian prisoner.

- Gilman was released for health reasons and he now is heading to the United States, Reuters previously reported, citing a US administration official.

- According to it, Gilman is coming back to America on a special flight where he will head to a military hospital in Texas for medical examination and treatment, the Associated Press reported.

- According to the agency, his family also flew to Texas to be with him.

- On August 6, Reuters quoted a US official as saying that the Washington administration had asked Russia to release Gilman.

- The story said citing sources that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio mentioned the Gilman case at a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Manila on July 23.

- A source said that the Washington administration "was closely monitoring Gilman's case and has repeatedly appealed to the Russian side to return him to the United States."

- The source said that the State Department was concerned about his health.

- On July 6, Gilman’s lawyer Irina Brazhnikova told TASS that his trials had been suspended due to him being hospitalized for treatment.

- She said the situation would move forward after treatment.

- Records from the Central District Court of Voronezh also stated that Gilman had a mental disorder or other serious illness that precluded him from standing trial.

- Gilman was detained in 2022 at the Voronezh railway station after being involved in a drunken brawl on the Sukhum-Moscow train.

- At the police station, he kicked an Interior Ministry officer.

- The court sentenced him to 4.5 years in a general regime penal colony, and in 2023 his sentence was reduced by one year.

- Further charges were brought against Gilman during his stay in prison - for not agreeing to observe daily routines as well as for using physical violence against an employee of the institution and an inspector in the pre-trial detention center, where he was transferred for the investigation period.

- In 2024, Gilman was sentenced to seven years and one month of imprisonment in a high-security penal colony and a fine of 300,000 rubles ($3,660). In April 2025, the sentence was increased by one year.

- At the end of 2025, the Central District Court of Voronezh handed down another verdict to Gilman, who was accused of two counts of using force against employees of the Federal Penitentiary Service.

- Thus, on May 5 of the same year, Gilman attacked an employee of the Federal Penitentiary Service in protest of being sent to a penal colony from the pre-trial detention center.

- Despite the attempt to attack a pre-trial detention center employee, the next day he was transferred to a correctional colony. Gilman again attacked an employee of the Federal Penitentiary Service.

- Two more years of penal colony were added to his previously appointed term of imprisonment.

- In early July, Gilman's court proceedings in Voronezh were suspended because he was hospitalized.
