We’ve been covering Muvox’s BMG showdown since it initiated back in 2024, when the filing party accused the Berlin-based defendant of infringing on a patent (No. 11,899,713) describing mood-based song-selection and playlisting technology.

As of last month, though, the courtroom confrontation had made decidedly little progress; the plaintiff, the presiding judge noted, had failed to serve or disclose serving BMG with the complaint.

The judge therefore gave Muvox two weeks to get the ball rolling. While it’s unclear what prompted the lengthy delay in the first place, the plaintiff subsequently confirmed serving BMG on the morning of June 10th.

On July 15th, Muvox voluntarily dismissed the suit with prejudice (meaning it cannot be refiled), reiterating in the corresponding notice that BMG hadn’t “yet answered the Complaint or moved for summary judgment.”

Additionally, “[e]ach party shall bear its own costs, expenses, and attorneys’ fees,” concluded Muvox, which previously sued Spotify and Rhythm One as well.

One day following the voluntary dismissal, the New Mexico-based entity fired off a decidedly similar suit against Amazon; a screenshot-heavy 73-page exhibit explores Amazon Music’s alleged infringement of the ’713 patent with its mood-based music recommendations.

July 16th also brought with it a ’713-centered suit from Muvox against Apple, accompanied once again by a voluminous exhibit charting the alleged infringement.

With that, despite previous signs of a possible patent litigation cooldown in the music space, we have two fresh complaints to track. And while the battle has largely flown under the media radar thus far, Muvox has been locking horns with Meta since February 2025 as well.

Separately, Live Nation and Ticketmaster are still fending off a patent complaint pertaining to the latter’s SafeTix rotating-barcode technology. As things stand, the case, having begun in October 2025, is wading through an in-depth discovery process, the docket shows.
