ISTANBUL, August 11. /TASS/. Turkey may put forward an initiative to set up two security corridors in the Black Sea - one for ships bound for Russia and another for ones heading to Ukraine, while a no-attack rule would be attached, pro-government newspaper Yeni Safak said.

Yeni Safak also points out that Turkey may restrict fishing by local fishermen outside the country's territorial waters in the Black Sea.

Ankara has not yet commented on the report. A local business source told TASS that information about the creation of safety corridors fits well into the authorities' plans to ensure the safety of navigation.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan previously said that Ankara is closely monitoring the safety of navigation in the Black Sea and has conveyed to the parties to the Ukrainian conflict a proposal for a moratorium on military action.

The Dunya newspaper said that the association of Turkish shipowners and operators of coastal navigation invited Ankara and international organizations to sit down at the negotiating table to establish a new offshore grain corridor like the previously created one under the Black Sea grain initiative. It believes that this has become an urgent need both for regional trade and for ensuring global food security.

The grain deal was signed in Istanbul in 2022 to ensure a safe sea corridor for the produce exports from the Black Sea ports and terminated next year. Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly pointed out that the West exported most of the Ukrainian grain to their countries, while the main purpose of the deal - supplies to the countries in need, including those in Africa - was never realized.
