Better put any plans for another Cars sequel on ice after “Lightning McQueen’s” latest legal problems!

A California car meet was supposed to be a simple Saturday night hangout — engines revving, hoods popped, people admiring chrome. Instead, it ended with a scuffle, shuttered storefronts, and one extremely committed Lightning McQueen themed red Corvette becoming the unexpected mascot of a police crackdown.

Elk Grove officers were already running a traffic enforcement operation when the parking lot tipped into chaos. A fight broke out, businesses briefly locked their doors, and the meet shifted from show and shine to burnout theater. By the time police cleared the scene, they’d made 121 stops, issued 105 citations, and towed three vehicles. Only one of them, however, looked like it had driven straight out of Cars.

The Corvette — bright red, wearing #95, a yellow lightning bolt, and “Medicated Bumper Ointment” across the rear — became an instant social media celebrity. Police posted a photo of it being hoisted onto a tow truck with the caption: “From Ka Chow to Ka Ching! Looks like Lightning McQueen took a wrong turn.”

Officers say the driver was towed for burning rubber, though they didn’t specify which citations were issued or whether the burnout alone sealed the car’s fate. The broader operation targeted sideshow behavior, reckless driving, and anything that turned a peaceful meet into a headache for shoppers just trying to get in and out of the center.

Online, though, the Corvette stole the entire narrative. Commenters piled on with Cars jokes — McQueen’s fictional arrest record, Tow Mater’s presumed involvement, and one perfect closer: “Ka Chow, look who ain’t got a car now.”

At the end of the night, the enforcement operation was serious — but the red Corvette ensured the world remembered it for something else entirely: the evening Lightning McQueen got impounded and accidentally became the star of a police PR campaign.
