PS5 RAM supply remains secure according to Sony, as the company reassured investors that memory supply limits should not stop PlayStation 5 production plans. In the Q1 FY2026 earnings presentation, Sony confirmed it has enough RAM supplies to build the PS5 units it expects to sell over the fiscal year ending March 2027, even with competition from the artificial intelligence industry for memory chips.

The note lands as worries grow about DRAM and other memory parts, since AI servers are taking up a big slice of global semiconductor output. Still, Sony believes its buying strategy is set up in a way that will let it reach expected demand, including the anticipated bump from Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6).

PS5 RAM Supply: AI boom puts more pressure on memory supply

The quick rise of artificial intelligence has driven demand for more advanced memory chips, like the kind used for faster data handling. Companies building AI infrastructure are buying big volumes of DRAM and high-bandwidth memory (HBM), and that creates tight conditions across the semiconductor supply chain.

During the earnings call, Sony acknowledged that memory procurement has turned into a real race because of the AI boom. Even with all these issues, despite it all, Sony seems confident procurement is working out.

PS5 production is still on track

Sony said the available memory supply will back up its expected PlayStation 5 sales during the fiscal year. So, at least for now, the company doesn’t plan on RAM shortages messing with its production goals, or causing any major console availability troubles in key markets. Honestly, that reassurance matters a lot because PlayStation is moving into a period that might end up being among its strongest since launch. GTA 6 is likely to push hardware demand a lot.

A big piece of why Sony sounds confident is the expected pull from Grand Theft Auto VI. Rockstar’s game is highly anticipated, and it’s widely seen as a possible giant entertainment release, with analysts suggesting that millions of players could buy a PlayStation 5, just to play it. Sony admitted that GTA 6 probably will create extra hardware demand, but the company also thinks its locked-in memory supply should cover it, without serious production disruptions.

Semiconductor competition is still intense

Even with that optimism, Sony also noted that the memory market stays pretty cutthroat. More and more AI investment is reshaping semiconductor demand, and cloud providers plus AI companies are buying big amounts of memory components for data centers.

Industry analysts also cautioned this could ripple into several consumer electronics categories, gaming consoles included, as well as PCs and smartphones.  Sony’s procurement approach, so far, seems to have buffered the PlayStation side from these pressures for the current fiscal year.

Final Thoughts

Looking ahead, Sony’s confirmation that it has secured enough RAM for PlayStation 5 production gives some real reassurance, at least when AI-driven demand is putting this odd kind of strain on the semiconductor industry. They’re planning ahead, and the idea is that console availability can stay steady through the fiscal year even while Grand Theft Auto VI is expected to spark one of the biggest waves of hardware need we’ve seen in recent gaming history.

Memory supply is still a pain point across the wider tech world, but Sony’s latest update kind of signals that PlayStation players probably won’t run into broad shortages in the months to come. And as GTA 6 moves closer to its launch, this preparation could end up being pretty important for making sure eager gamers can actually get their hands on a PS5, without the sort of supply hiccups that showed up during the console’s early years.
