Mojang Studios just confirmed that Minecraft is going to launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27, so yeah, the world’s top-selling sandbox game is finally getting a native version on Nintendo’s newest console. This announcement comes after months of waiting,g and it also brings a bunch of visual and performance improvements that are tuned for the extra capable hardware. 

For a lot of players this feels like one of Minecraft’s more major platform bumps in recent years because you get more than just “it runs here”, you also get Vibrant Visuals, smoother gameplay, cleaner graphics, and even straightforward save transfers from the original Nintendo Switch version too.  

One of the headline things for the Nintendo Switch 2 edition is support for Vibrant Visuals, and it’ll be turned on by default. The update overhauls what you see with enhanced lighting, moving shadows, better reflections, deeper water effects, plus upgraded environment rendering across the whole game. Mojang also says the native Switch 2 build is optimized to use the console’s stronger hardware, delivering a more immersive Minecraft experience without changing the way the gameplay feels and plays.

Honestly, besides all the shiny visual upgrades, the Nintendo Switch 2 edition is really aiming at performance. Mojang notes the native version should run more smoothly, so players can wander through bigger landscapes and build more seamlessly than before. They haven’t shared exact frame rate or resolution goals yet, but the idea here is clear: the game should make better use of the Switch 2 upgraded processing power.

That said, the company still hasn’t mentioned upgrade pricing yet; they said more details will come out nearer to launch, which is annoying but also normal.

The popular Super Mario Mash-Up Pack is set to receive a refreshed version built and optimized for Nintendo Switch 2. Mojang says the update brings Mario-themed realms that feel more vivid, updated character skins, and music tweaks meant to match the upgraded visuals plus the smoother overall performance on the new hardware.

For a long time, the Mash-Up Pack has been one of Minecraft’s most recognizable platform-only additions, and yeah, the latest optimization is basically there so Nintendo players can keep getting something special that still isn’t available on other systems.
