Apple is reportedly accelerating development of AI-powered smart glasses with integrated cameras and “silent” voice control, according to Bloomberg.

The report states that Apple is prioritizing three AI wearables: smart glasses, a pendant device, and AirPods with cameras. Bloomberg also reports that Apple’s AI glasses are designed to compete more directly with Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses, which combine cameras, microphones, speakers, and AI interaction features.

According to Bloomberg, Apple’s upcoming glasses will include two camera systems. One camera is expected to support computer vision tasks, such as object recognition and scene understanding, while the other will capture photos and videos.

Apple has also reportedly resolved an early hardware challenge. Initial concepts relied on an external battery pack, but the company has since found a way to embed all required components directly into the glasses frame.

Q.ai Acquisition Brings Silent Voice Recognition To Apple's Glasses

Apple recently acquired a startup called Q.ai for approximately $2 billion. The company specialized in machine learning systems capable of interpreting silent voice input.

The technology that Apple acquired focuses on detecting micro facial movements and other subtle signals to interpret speech without requiring audible voice commands. If integrated into Apple’s glasses, the system could allow users to interact with Siri or other AI features without speaking aloud.

Traditional voice assistants require clear audio input and can struggle in noisy environments or when users speak quietly. Silent voice recognition could reduce reliance on audible commands, particularly in public settings.

Apple has not publicly confirmed how Q.ai’s technology will be implemented in future products.

How Apple’s Glasses Fit Into Its Broader AI Strategy

The AI glasses are described as part of Apple’s broader effort to embed Siri and AI features more deeply into everyday usage. Alongside the glasses, Bloomberg reports that Apple is also developing a wearable pendant and AirPods with camera.

The smart glasses project appears to be distant from Apple’s long-term augmented reality ambitions. Instead of full AR overlays, the current focus is on AI-powered contextual assistance, image capture, and audio interaction.

Bloomberg did not provide a specific release date but suggests the product could arrive within the next year.
