Op-Ed: Illinois’ teacher fund is still betting big while half-funded – Center Square

Дата публикации: 07-08-2026 05:38:27

A private-sector 401(k) sponsor approving nine new alternative-asset commitments, four to brand-new managers, while carrying a sub-50% funded ratio would be facing a Department of Labor inquiry, not a routine board vote. Public pension trustees answer to no comparable standard. Illinois just showed exactly what that gap looks like in practice.

Unity and Solidarity

It runs right throughconflicted uneducated trustees, especially in the city of chicago. most trustees can barely balance a checkbook let alone vote on investment decisions worth hundreds of millions of dollars after a 12 minute presentation. The U.S. needs to go the Canadian route and get conflicted trustees out of the investment process.

trump has made over 2 billion so far in second term so where is the outcry for him to be investigated?

For each new investment, it would be interesting to trace their lobbyists, partners, and interested others to see how the path from politician to pension fund meanders.
