Facial recognition technology led to the arrest of a man who used his cellphone to secretly record dozens of women and teen girls as they got dressed in fitting rooms inside a Chester County store, officials said.
Benedicto Lemus Moran, 43, of West Grove, Pennsylvania, was arrested and charged with multiple counts of sexual extortion – make/distribute material containing sexual conduct/nudity, multiple counts of invasion of privacy – view, photograph etc. person without consent, and other related offenses.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, a woman was inside the dressing room of a Goodwill store in Chester County back on March 27, 2026, when she noticed a cellphone slide underneath the door. The woman reported it to store management who looked at surveillance video which captured a man — later identified as Benedicto Lemus Moran — inside the Goodwill, officials said.
The manager then set a facial recognition alert on her phone that would go off if Lemus Moran returned to the store.
Investigators said Lemus Moran then returned to the store a few days later and the alert went off. The manager then contacted state police. When the troopers arrived, they found Lemus Moran in the back of the store and took him into custody, officials said.
Police said Lemus Moran’s phone contained more than two dozen videos of women and teen girls changing in the store’s fitting rooms. Police have not yet revealed if all of the victims were identified.
State police said Lemus Moran was also wanted out of New York state for separate charges as well as an Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) detainer. He is currently being held by federal immigration authorities.
