Auree is building a cloud-independent platform for deploying and operating highly available open source databases, including MariaDB, inside customers’ own cloud accounts. Its Bring Your Own Cloud model allows organisations to choose their cloud provider, region, infrastructure size, and security environment while Auree automates database provisioning, monitoring, backups, clustering, and failover.
This approach addresses a growing concern among organisations adopting managed database services: how to gain the operational benefits of the cloud without surrendering control of their data, infrastructure, or future deployment choices.
Auree’s platform uses a lightweight 2+1 architecture, consisting of two database nodes and a smaller witness node responsible for quorum. The model is designed to provide automatic failover and high availability without requiring customers to operate and pay for three full database servers.
“Auree is tackling an important part of open source database adoption: making resilient database operations simpler without tying users to one cloud platform,” said Anna Widenius, CEO of MariaDB Foundation. “Their support strengthens our work on MariaDB Server and helps create more ways for organisations to run MariaDB reliably in the environments they choose.”
Auree brings together a team with decades of experience in database replication, clustering, and enterprise high availability. The technology behind the company builds on expertise developed through Tungsten Cluster and its use in demanding production environments.
“MariaDB is an essential part of the open source database landscape, and we want Auree users to be able to deploy it with the availability and operational simplicity expected from modern cloud services,” said Janne Kalliola, CEO of Auree. “Supporting MariaDB Foundation is a natural extension of our commitment to open database technology, customer control, and freedom of deployment.”
As a Silver Sponsor, Auree will support MariaDB Foundation’s work maintaining MariaDB Server as an open source project, coordinating community development, improving documentation and testing, and expanding the ecosystem around MariaDB.
We look forward to working with Auree on practical approaches to highly available, cloud-independent MariaDB deployments.
