For those of you who are of the opinion that the people at Dunkin’ aren’t interested in solving the big problems facing society, here is proof positive you are wrong: The Massachusetts-based coffee-and-doughnut giant has announced it is rolling out a specially designed cup holder to accommodate its 48-ounce “Iced Beverage Bucket.” So there.

You’ll recall that Dunkin’ exploded onto the drinks-in-giant-buckets scene back in February, when it announced its new innovation of selling 48 ounces of coffee (or sparkling “Refresher”), poured into a bucket with a handle for the drinker on the go. (With, naturally, a giant straw.) In a development that surprised absolutely no one, they sold out almost immediately after a limited time of being sold at a handful of stores.

But don’t worry, it seems you’ll have another shot: The iced coffee bucket is coming back (“for a limited time, while supplies last”) on Friday, Aug. 7. And this time, having heard the pleas of the luckless, abandoned, and forsaken (to paraphrase Bob Dylan), they will provide (at the cost of an additional $12 over and above the $12.99 you paid for your iced coffee) a way to bring it along in your car without spilling enough beverage to short out your steering column plugs.

“During an initial alpha market test earlier this year, guests made one thing clear: they wanted a simpler way to take their Beverage Buckets on the go,” Dunkin’ wrote in its breathless press release announcing the new development. “The Dunkin’ team got to work, designing a solution while the test was still underway.”

“The result? The new Dunkin’ Iced Beverage Bucket Holder, a custom accessory designed to hold a Beverage Bucket while fitting securely into a standard car cup holder.” And they said it couldn’t be done.

Of course, the cup holders went on sale Wednesday and are already sold out, so hopefully the aforementioned Dunkin’ team is hard at work solving that particular supply-and-demand issue.
