Free, festive, and brimming with beauty: Celebrate the LA River at ‘RiverFest'

Дата публикации: 05-08-2026 11:27:53

Rivers are eternally changeable, full of drama and flair, and each new bend can offer a river’s admirer a fresh view, experience, observation, or deeply felt emotion.
This all applies, very much so, to the Los Angeles River, a waterway that brims with moxie, flavor, and history.
Cement stretches and manmade structures rule some of the urban feature, while birds, trees, and fishes are found in other areas.
It’s a big river with a big personality, in short, meaning a big annual party thrown in its honor feels right.
Friends of the Los Angeles River (FoLAR), the river-championing nonprofit, has spent the last few years helming a happening at Los Angeles State Historic Park, a location not far from the river. Fans gather at the celebration to revel in their shared river love, learn about the river’s past and future, and enjoy a few themed activities.
The fifth annual RiverFest is wending its way into our river-obsessed worlds on Aug. 9, and you can register at the FoLAR site before arriving at the event.
An environmental art gallery will be one draw, along with an appearance by the Latin Grammy-nominated Azteca dance company Xipe Totec, good tunes DJ Dominiq, and a marketplace.
Other live performances dot the schedule, so expect music, art, and celebratory vibes to shimmer throughout the outdoor festivity.
RiverFest will “flow” into LA State Historic Park on Aug. 9, 2026.
Food trucks will be nearby, too, should you want an afternoon snack or early dinner. The hours are 2:30 to 7 p.m., though attendees can show up for as long as they like.
Dozens of local organizations will be at the park, too, including Heal the Bay, Frogtown Arts, and LA River Arts.
The gathering “… celebrates and brings together the culture, history, nature and people that shape the 51-mile LA River, with special focus on community and how this great waterway provides vital public space for recreation, for work, and for nature itself,” shared FoLAR in a statement.
While admission is free, you might consider the suggestion donation of $5. There’s a VIP entry option, too, if you want to help out. It’s $120, and includes a parking option and five raffle tickets, among other perks.
Can’t make RiverFest this year? There’s a fast way to support FoLAR’s mission. Donate to the organization at this site and find out how it is helping to care for one of Southern California’s splashiest celebrities.
