The European Union is now facing the effects of the energy crisis that it created with its own hands by refusing to buy Russian gas, Russian Presidential Special Representative for Investment and Economic Cooperation with Foreign Countries and CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund Kirill Dmitriev said.

"Winter is coming as due to decoupling from Russian gas: Germany has filled only 47.6% of gas storage against a normal 75%, and the Netherlands only 38.5% against 77%," he wrote on the X social network. "The EU is facing a self-made energy crisis."

Earlier, Russian energy giant Gazaprom said that volumes of gas in European underground storage facilities (UGS) are currently record low.

Currently, European UGS facilities are 58.32% full compared to 70.7% in the previous year, containing around 63.7 bln cubic meters (bcm) of gas, which is 13.8 bcm less than last year's stockpiles, according to TASS calculations based on Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) data. This is the lowest amount since 2011.
