To mark Europe’s newest generation heavy‑lift launcher, La Poste, France’s national postal service, has issued a collector set of eight stamps featuring Ariane 6, paying tribute to Europe’s ambitious space programme.
Ariane 6 is the latest launcher in a long line of rockets to fly from Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana. It provides reliable, modular and versatile access to space, serving institutional and commercial customers. ESA’s Ariane programme began in the 1970s to provide Europe with independent access to space, and the first flight of Ariane 1 took place in 1979. Within the Ariane 6 programme, ArianeGroup is responsible for the design and construction of the launcher, CNES develops and operates the launch facilities, and Arianespace manages the commercialisation and operation of flights. This collaboration reflects more than five decades of European cooperation in space.
Ariane 6 eight-stamp collector's set issued by La Poste
The launcher’s most recent mission, VA269, flew on 17 June, deploying 36 satellites for Amazon’s low‑Earth‑orbit broadband constellation. Ariane 6 is available in two configurations depending on mission requirements: a version known as Ariane 62, equipped with two solid-propellant rocket boosters, and Ariane 64, featuring four boosters.
This eight-stamp collector's set was initiated by La Poste de Guyane, La Poste's regional branch in French Guiana. It features images of Ariane 6 in its Ariane 62 configuration at various stages of lift‑off, showcasing its power, precision and technological heritage, and includes the Ariane 6 mission patch.
Through this initiative, La Poste honours Europe’s Ariane 6 rocket using the symbolic medium of stamps.
