Stop what you're doing right now and go vote for this Lego Ideas design: Subaru Impreza WRC & Colin McRae. We'll wait. Now that that's out of the way, it's time to start practicing your boxer engine sounds.

We can all get behind well-executed Lego renderings of cars. Make it a historic race winner with an iconic livery and add in the legendary driver, and you've really got something. This product idea was created by user TOMOELL and submitted for consideration late last month. At the time of writing, it's up past 2400 supporters and hopefully on its way to the goal of 10,000. If it reaches that milestone—and we sincerely hope it does—the design could be made into a real Lego set you can buy and build. More on that later.

For now, let's drool a bit. All the important details are there: gold wheels, World Rally Blue "paint," period-correct livery, and look at that roll cage! It uses the iconic yellow graphics of team sponsor 555, just without the name of the cigarette company (yep, it's a cigarette company). The Subaru World Rally Team couldn't have done a better job.

While McRae made history in 1995 as the first British driver to win the WRC title, this model appears to be based on a later evolution of the rally Impreza that he campaigned in 1998, his last year with the Subaru team. The 1995 car was a sedan wearing number 4, while this looks like the WRC98 coupe with the big wing and big fog light covers in the bumper. We'll let that stylistic choice slide since the two-door is a lot more handsome. The number decal on the door identifies it as the entrant to the 1998 Rallye Monte Carlo, a race in which McRae finished third alongside co-driver Nicky Grist.

In addition to the faithful recreation of a McRae Subaru and a minifigure of the driver, the set's designer built in some interactivity beyond the standard moving wheels and opening doors, trunk, and hood. This is more like a modular diorama, with rock outcroppings and sand rooster tails that can be rearranged to create three distinct scenes: a drifty power slide, a sweet jump, and a service park, the latter complete with a jack, a set of stands, and even a tool cart with a chunky laptop sitting on top.

For those unfamiliar, the way Lego Ideas works is that anyone can make a design and submit it for voting. If a creation hits the magic 10,000-vote mark, it gets considered to be massaged into a real set. There are things that can derail this process, including licensing and, in this case, permission from McRae's estate, but we have a good feeling here. It helps that Lego's dark royal blue brick color is pretty darn close to Subaru's World Rally Blue (because we checked).

If this set does become a reality, it would be in good company, joining Ideas sets of the Caterham 620R, the DeLorean from Back to the Future, and the Ghostbusters' Ecto 1. Your final assignment is to send this to everyone you know and tell them to vote too.
