A woman has been charged following a knife attack that left four men wounded in the heart of London.

Emergency services rushed to Endell Street in Covent Garden at approximately 12.30pm on Wednesday after receiving reports of a stabbing in the bustling tourist district, renowned for its theatres, restaurants and bars.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that Stella Gollovena, 47, of no fixed address, was charged on Thursday with four counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and one count of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

She has been remanded in custody to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court later on Thursday.

While an air ambulance helicopter touched down in a crowded Trafalgar Square on Wednesday afternoon, London Ambulance Service, which responded at 12.29pm, subsequently confirmed it had "treated four patients at the scene and took them all to a major trauma centre as a priority by road".

The Met revealed the four men – aged 34, 39, 42 and 56 – sustained stab wounds but have now been released from hospital as their injuries were not considered life-threatening or life-changing.
