However, one leaker with a decent track record believes that the product is still in the works and that the iPhone Ultra (or iPhone Fold) is going to take us a significant step closer to an iPad Fold launch …
The iPad Fold rumors to dateThere has been considerable confusion about exactly what kind of device the company was working on. Early reports suggested that it might be a MacBook with a soft keyboard that opens up into a very large display. Others described it as a folding iPad, and that now seems to be the consensus view.
There has been some degree of consistency when it comes to the display size of the device. Reports have variously suggested somewhere in the 18 to 20 inch range before seemingly coalescing on 18.8 inches.
There has been no consistency when it comes to launch timings, and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman last month threw a spanner in the works when he said that it may never launch at all.
iPhone Ultra will take us a step closerThis device has been a Ternus priority but may end up being a wacky experiment that doesn’t see the light of day, according to several people who have worked on it.
Leaker Digital Chat Station has made a brief post on Weibo, appearing to indicate that the iPad Fold will share the same folding display tech as the iPhone Ultra.
Supply chain feedback, Apple and competing wide folding will also have seamless hinge solutions.
That, of course, wouldn’t be remotely surprising. Apple will be seeking the same crease-free display and robust folding mechanism for both devices. The news here is simply that signs of the iPad Fold are still present within Apple’s supply chain. That still doesn’t guarantee it will ever see the light of day, but at least makes it seem a little more likely.
