Ellie Bamber has admitted it was 'frightening' taking on the 'big responsibility' of playing Kate Moss in the biopic film Moss & Freud.

The actress joined her co-star Sir Derek Jacobi on The One Show on Tuesday ahead of the release of the movie, which follows the budding friendship between the supermodel and artist Lucian Freud. 

Kate, 52, first met Lucian, who passed away in 2011 at the age of 88, in 2002 - when the model agreed to sit for a portrait painted by the artist over a course of months. 

The duo struck up an unlikely friendship during their time together for the making of the painting, which was sold in 2005 for a whopping £3.9million. 

Ellie, 29, portrays the then 28-year-old Kate in the film, which is due for release on May 29, while Derek, 87, plays the late artist.

The star went on to attend a screening for the film, with Kate herself noticeably absent despite her role as a producer. 

Speaking about playing a young Kate, Ellie admitted she was 'terrified' to get the role right - spending time mastering her laugh, voice and catwalk-ready movements. 

She told The One Show hosts Alex Jones and Roman Kemp of transforming into Kate: 'It was really frightening, and I felt like I had a responsibility to do her justice. 

'It was a great responsibility and a challenge I was really excited about, and I think anything that brings you fear is a great thing to go and do.

'The voice was something that I really spent a lot of time stewing over, it was really important to me, and her laugh was really a gateway into her. 

'I spent a lot of time with an amazing vocal coach, and we worked on the voice, and then movement as well - we were learning her mannerisms, where they come from, why someone moves the way they do and then all the catwalk stuff was really fun.' 

It wasn't just getting Kate's voice and mannerisms right for Ellie, who admitted Kate gave her a dress she wore for her 30th birthday to recreate the scene. 

Ellie continued: 'I am pretty clumsy so I was definitely terrified... I was so worried about this dress, it's so precious and such a piece of fashion history.'

Last night, stars of the film gathered for a star-studded premiere - but Kate was missing from the red carpet as she failed to show at the event. 

Kate served as an executive producer on the biopic, which shows the moment her younger self was almost killed in a car crash, and using cocaine.

Kate previously appeared at a celebrity-packed party for the film back in October 2025, alongside her daughter Lila, 23, and actor Derek.  

At the premiere, which was held at London's Selfridges, Ellie said of the film: 'Kate really had time to reflect. It is a coming of age story for her.'

It comes after it was revealed yesterday that Kate is said to be next in line for a Netflix docuseries following on from the success of specials dedicated to Victoria Beckham and Kylie. 

Ahead of the 35th anniversary of the supermodel's 1992 campaign with Calvin Klein, which saw her propelled to fame at just 18, a production company is said to be offering up a profile on Kate, 52, to the streaming giants. 

After releasing fly-on-the-wall style documentary series with the likes of former Spice Girl Victoria, 52, and pop star Kylie, 57, Netflix is said to be considering the project.

According to The Sun, the production company has high hopes that Kate herself will be keen to get involved with the docuseries. 

An insider told the publication: 'Although she is known for her ''Never complain, never explain'' approach to life, there are signs that she might now be willing to discuss her life in a way she never has before.

'Getting Kate on board would make a huge difference to the streamers and probably spark a bidding war, if it came to fruition.

'Though it's a bit of a chicken-and-egg situation where having Kate sign up might be dependent on someone like Netflix saying it is interested first.'

The insider added that producers are 'desperate' to find a way to make the series happen, with hopes that success of previous TV autobiographies on 'David and Victoria Beckham, Kylie and Gordon Ramsay' will be 'persuasive'.

It would follow on from Kate's former appearance in Apple TV documentary In Vogue: The 90s, where she candidly opened up about her modelling career. 

In the show, which was released in 2024 and is available to stream on ITVX, Kate revealed that her trim figure saw her slammed by parents of children with eating disorders.
