Police in Bukomansimbi District have been commended for maintaining law and order during the Local Council I (LC I) elections, which were conducted peacefully across the district.

The security operation was led by Bukomansimbi District Police Commander (DPC) Aggrey Francis Kyesimira, who deployed officers to polling centres across the district to protect electoral officials, manage crowds and prevent disruptions during voting.

From early morning, police officers were stationed at polling venues as residents turned up to elect village chairpersons. The officers worked alongside Electoral Commission officials and local leaders to ensure that voting followed established guidelines.

Although minor disagreements were reported during the verification of voters' registers in some villages, police intervened to resolve the issues before they escalated.

Kyesimira praised residents for maintaining calm throughout the exercise and cooperating with security personnel.

"We appreciate the people of Bukomansimbi for remaining peaceful throughout the electoral process. We also thank all security officers who remained vigilant and professional in ensuring that every eligible voter exercised his or her democratic right in a peaceful environment," he said.

He warned individuals who may attempt to disrupt the remaining electoral activities that police would continue enforcing the law.

"Our responsibility is to protect every citizen and ensure that elections are conducted in accordance with the law. We shall continue providing security until the entire electoral process is concluded," Kyesimira added.

The Electoral Commission also recognised the cooperation between security agencies, election officials and residents, saying the peaceful environment enabled voting to proceed successfully in most villages.

Voting was completed in the majority of Bukomansimbi's 254 villages, although a few villages that missed the exercise due to logistical challenges are expected to conduct their elections the following day under security supervision.

Residents praised the police presence, saying it increased confidence among voters and helped prevent intimidation, violence and disorder.

Local leaders described the peaceful conduct of the LC I elections as a major achievement for Bukomansimbi District and expressed hope that the calm atmosphere would continue throughout the remaining stages of the electoral process.
