The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Palakkad district on Tuesday as heavy rain continued across the district on Monday. The spillway shutters of the Kanjirapuzha and Mangalam dams were raised following a rise in water levels. Three shutters of the Kanjirapuzha dam were opened by 10 cm each after the water level reached 96.16 metres against the full reservoir level of 97.50 metres. At Mangalam dam, all six spillway shutters were raised by 30 cm after the water level touched 76.81 metres.

The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has advised people living downstream of the dams, along riverbanks and in low-lying areas to remain vigilant. It has also asked the public to avoid entering rivers and to abstain from fishing and venturing into areas with strong currents. The district received an average rainfall of 39.1 mm in the last 24 hours. According to the DDMA, 31 houses were partially damaged and two were destroyed in rain-related incidents over the past three days. Sixteen people were evacuated as a precaution. However, no relief camps have been opened.
