A bargain price on a previous favourite.

I'm not sure what the folks over at Woot! are smoking at the moment, but I've spotted quite a ridiculous discount on one of the beefiest gaming keyboards we've tested in recent years. We rated the Razer Huntsman V2 Analog as one of our previous favourite gaming keyboards as a result of its controller-like accuracy, marvellous build quality and decent software and it's has received a huge 72% price cut from the online retailer. Right now, it's just $70 from Woot! - that's a return to an immensely low price, and a far cry from its $250 reference price. On Amazon, the cheapest it's ever been is $85, so this is a healthy undercut there. It's a new keyboard to boot, not a refurb or open box deal, and it also comes with a 1-year Razer warranty to boot.

The big thing here are those analog switches, which took the concept developed from the likes of Wooting several years before and took it mainstream. It provides progressive inputs on a key, and gives you controller-like accuracy, similar to analog sticks or triggers. This is perhaps felt most when playing racing games where you have more control over steering or throttle input, for instance, although also provides a benefit in competitive FPS titles for more precise movement.

I'm a big fan of analog switches, and think this is was the first keyboard to bring this into the 'mainstream' after Wooting pioneered the technology on the Wooting One and a couple of its other keyboards. Having those progressive inputs can genuinelly make it easier for steering and throttle inputs against more 'standard' mechanical keyboards in arcade racers such as Forza Horizon 5, although you're still best to use a proper wheel and pedals in more sim-based titles. My only reservation with these switches is that they make the Huntsman V2 Analog quite a loud keyboard, but considering the Huntsman V2 Analog is likely to be used in a gaming den when you're on your own, it should be fine.

Inputs are programmed in Razer's Synapse 3 software, which is convenient and you can also choose the actuation point at which the key inputs, as well as map any key to a specific controller input, which can increase initial familiarity with using a keyboard as a controller. Subsequent software updates have also helped this keyboard add rapid trigger to its arsenal, helping it as one of the best rapid trigger gaming keyboards too - this means you can set the actuation and reset point of the switch as high as possible for especially brisk inputs. There is also dual actuation, so you can map two keypresses to one switch depending on how far you push the switch down - this is handy for things such as walking, and then running with one key, or for when you want to execute more advanced combos and skill rotations in games that need it. This is where this 'board becomes more useful for more competitive, FPS-type titles, and rapid trigger comes alongside the analog powers for controller-like precision.

Otherwise, the Huntsman V2 Analog is a well-made keyboard with a full complement of keys and handy extras including tactile media controls and a plush magnetic wristrest that helps this provide as much function as it does form, with Razer's classic looks. There are also durable doubleshot PBT keycaps for an extra touch of quality at an admittedly rather discounted price. You also get the fun of Razer's Chroma per-key RGB lighting for added vibrancy, which can also be controlled in Synapse.
