At the third attempt I finally managed to get Pillage to the table. Historical purists look away now.

I had Saxons and Late Romans painted up. However late Romans don’t feature on the list builder I had found, so I used Carolingians instead.

The Saxon list was a bit more diverse. I was a bit worried about balance.Especially as I was trying to get my friend into the game.

I had printed and primed the buildings. I used Trench brown for the base and Ossified earth for the thatched roof.

I made a wash using Windsor and Newton sepia ink, some flow medium and a splash of detergent.

I used a couple of AK markers to go over the stone walls, and one to go over the stick fences. This proved to be quite effective once the wash was applied

I had acquired a cheap box of barricades through the medium of Vinted, and also picked up the market, treasure and animals sets from Victrix. Plus I have a bunch of Traitors Toll bits and bobs that might prove useful too .

Lots of tiny fiddly things to paint yay.In fact I dug up so many that I am doing a separate project on them

So the plan is to tack everything to lolly sticks to prime and paint. I am going to go through my existing scatter stuff and see if there is stuff I can use as well.

Then it’s on to the farmyard beasties.I am considering clear round bases for them.

The Victrix figures were a pleasure to work with. I was trying to ‘paint rather than build’. I enjoy building and priming more than painting, although the 12 SAS desert fighters I had done recently were really satisfying to paint.

I need to paint more. I have so many RUBs of assembled but unpainted figures it’s seriously not healthy.
