One year ago, the AU-EU Youth Voices Lab App was launched with a clear mission: to provide young people across Africa and Europe with a single digital space to learn, connect, and access new opportunities. Twelve months later, it has evolved into a thriving community where thousands of young people are exchanging ideas, building lasting connections, and preparing for a brighter future together.

The platform’s first-year achievements tell a compelling story. More than 6,000 young people from 122 countries have joined the App, making it one of the fastest-growing platforms for youth engagement between Africa and Europe. Yet its greatest achievement is not measured by user numbers alone, but by the strong sense of community and belonging it has fostered.

One of the App’s defining strengths is the active role young people have played in shaping its development. More than 8,400 users have submitted feedback and suggestions, helping to refine the platform and ensure it continues to reflect the real needs and aspirations of its growing community.

Learning has remained at the heart of the experience. During its first year, users completed 1,417 online courses, acquiring valuable skills and earning certificates that support their education, career development, and personal growth. Meanwhile, the App’s Opportunity Desk featured 270 opportunities, including internships, grants, fellowships, leadership programmes, and events, providing young people with easier access to opportunities they might otherwise never have discovered.

Community engagement has continued to expand through 15 live online demonstration sessions, where 335 participants explored the platform’s features and connected with fellow users. An impressive user satisfaction rate of 86.3 percent further reflects the value the App continues to deliver to its growing community.

The platform’s impact is perhaps best illustrated through the experiences of its users. According to Ibukun-Seven, the Opportunity Desk has helped them discover valuable programmes, while the App’s badge system has made learning more engaging and rewarding. Another user, Fayemiwo Olawale, says the platform enabled him to participate in meaningful discussions on multilateralism and shared prosperity while learning alongside young people from diverse countries and backgrounds.

The AU-EU Youth Voices Lab App forms part of the AU-EU Youth Voices Lab – Power of the Collective, a programme running from 2024 to 2028 with support from the European Union, alongside partners including Oxfam, Restless Development, Search for Common Ground, Youthmakers Hub, and ComDevAfrica.

After only one year, the AU-EU Youth Voices Lab App has become far more than a digital platform. It has grown into a vibrant community where young people are learning, discovering new opportunities, building meaningful connections, and contributing to stronger partnerships between Africa and Europe. If its first year is any indication, the years ahead promise even greater impact and opportunities for the next generation.
