STRATFORD — Police found no evidence of an attempted kidnapping Wednesday after responding to a report that person driving a van tried to abduct a child, officials said. 

Officers located the van described in the initial report, but did not uncover any proof the driver was involved in any criminal activity, according to Stratford police Det. Rachel Crosby

“Based on the investigation, detectives determined that there is no evidence to support that an attempted child abduction occurred and deemed that the report was not credible,” Crosby said. 

Crosby said the van was determined to belong to an uninvolved delivery driver, but did not provide any further details about the findings of the investigation. 

She noted that detectives came to the determination after thoroughly examining the circumstances, conducting interviews and reviewing all available video evidence. 

“We want to reassure residents that every report involving the safety of a child is treated with the utmost seriousness and investigated thoroughly,” Crosby said.
