One year after Risky Business catapulted him to stardom, Cruise purchased a newly built loft in Manhattan’s American Felt Building in 1984. The roughly 2,200-square-foot apartment featured two bedrooms, plus a third room outfitted as a state-of-the-art gym. While the purchase price was never publicly disclosed, the actor held onto the East Village residence for nearly three decades before selling it in 2013 for $3 million.

Shortly before marrying Kidman in 1990, Cruise paid $4.7 million for a gated estate in Pacific Palisades that became the couple’s longtime family home. Set on nearly an acre at the end of a private driveway, the 7,600-square-foot residence featured five bedrooms, six bathrooms, and a swimming pool. Cruise and Kidman raised their adopted children, Isabella and Connor, there before their 2001 divorce, after which ownership transferred to Kidman as part of the settlement. The following year, the property reportedly entered escrow for nearly $11 million.

Seeking privacy away from Hollywood, Cruise began developing a 320-acre ranch outside Telluride in the early 1990s, completing the custom compound in 1994. At its center was a 10,000-square-foot lodge-style main house with soaring timber-beamed ceilings, cedar-paneled walls, stone fireplaces, and four bedrooms, complemented by a separate three-bedroom guesthouse. The sprawling property also featured miles of private trails, a helipad, a motocross track, a sports court, and a golf practice area. Cruise first listed the ranch for $59 million in 2014, before relisting it in 2021 at $39.5 million, ultimately selling it for the full asking price that same year, records show.

Cruise’s Beverly Hills era began in 2001, when he leased a three-acre Tudor-style estate for a reported $55,000 per month. The nine-bedroom residence, which later housed Russell Crowe during the filming of State of Play and appeared in Blow, included a detached guesthouse, swimming pool, spa, and tennis court. After marrying Holmes in 2005, the couple continued leasing the property through 2008 while purchasing a permanent Beverly Hills estate nearby. In 2007, they paid $30.5 million for a gated 1.2-acre compound centered around a 10,286-square-foot mansion with seven bedrooms, multiple guesthouses, a pool, playground, and tennis court. Cruise retained the home following the couple’s 2012 divorce, before selling it in 2016 for $38 million.

Cruise assembled his Hollywood Hills compound through two separate purchases in 2005 totaling approximately $11.65 million, records show. Occupying more than 2.5 acres, the Tuscan-inspired estate included a seven-bedroom main residence with walls of glass overlooking the city, a vaulted living room, and an Italian farmhouse-style kitchen, along with a four-bedroom guesthouse and a separate stone wine cellar with a tasting room. After a substantial renovation in 2006, Cruise sold the property to actress Eva Longoria in 2015 for $11.4 million.

In 2006, Cruise expanded his property portfolio across the pond, paying roughly $4.2 million for an English country estate near East Grinstead in West Sussex. Set on more than 14 acres, the 11,300-square-foot residence, known as Rede Place, featured a cinema, dance studio, games room, detached two-bedroom guest pavilion, swimming pool, tennis court, and hot tub. Cruise owned the estate for nearly a decade before listing it in late 2015 and reportedly selling it the following year for about $6 million to singer and reality TV star Peter Andre.

After he parted ways with his Beverly Hills mansion, Cruise established a new home base in downtown Clearwater, purchasing a two-story penthouse for $9.5 million in 2017. Located near Scientology’s international headquarters, the residence spans the top floors of a luxury tower, offering a rooftop deck, solarium, 39-foot infinity pool, hot tub, bar, private car elevator, and even a flight simulator. Cruise also reportedly spent an additional $1.47 million to acquire three neighboring condominium units, which are believed to house staff or family members.
