A woman was shot and killed in Las Vegas Saturday morning following a fight with her roommate, police said.

Officers with the Metropolitan Police Department responded to the 1900 block of Plumas Court, near West Lake Mead and North Decatur boulevards, after receiving a 911 call at approximately 9:45 a.m. from a man who reported that his roommate had been shot, Lt. Robert Price said at a briefing near the scene.

The woman, later identified as Dorothy Baines, 58, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Price, the roommates — who were the only residents of the home — had been involved in an argument earlier in the morning that escalated.

“Somebody pulls out a firearm, causing a struggle between the two for the firearm to get control of it,” Price said. “At that time, this firearm was discharged, striking the female, and unfortunately she was pronounced deceased.”

Investigators had not yet determined which person produced the weapon, Price said.

Price didn’t say what the argument was about.

The man, who is in his 40s, was taken into custody. Police did not release his identity.
