With multiple teams, including the Yankees, pursuing catching, the Orioles are at least listening on Adley Rutschman.

There are myriad complications, including that Rutschman is currently on the IL with left wrist inflammation and not likely to return before mid-August. Additionally, Baltimore is not out of playoff contention.

But with multiple teams needing catching, Rutschman due to be a free agent after next season and the club performing well in the switch-hitter’s absence, the Orioles are at least engaged in talking to suitors — and maybe more than that. One executive from a team pursuing catching described the Orioles as “wanting to trade” Rutschman while two others from different clubs put the likelihood at exactly the same — 60/40 that he would be dealt.

One item that will not deter the Orioles if they trade Rutschman is doing so within the AL East, a source said. The Yankees, Red Sox and Rays are among those pursuing a catcher, as are the White Sox and Dodgers. There are believed to be a few other clubs who want to upgrade behind the plate.
