If there’s one thing every parent can relate to, it’s the sleepless nights that come with raising little kids. Whether it’s an infant who wakes up every hour on the hour or a toddler who resists bedtime altogether, kids and sleep routines make for some long nights (and exhausted days) for parents.
In fact, a viral TikTok showing just how hard it can be to sleep train an infant is resonating with parents everywhere. More than 34 million people have viewed a TikTok posted by Krystiana (@krystianatiana) that shows her struggle to get a decent night’s sleep as a mom to an infant daughter.
“Help, it’s almost every night,” she captioned the TikTok. “We’re in whatever stage you call this.”
The clip shows Krystiana and her husband sleeping in their bed as their infant daughter, who is sleeping in the same room in a portable crib, wakes up and proceeds to babble until they bring her into the bed with them. Throughout the wee morning hours, the baby talks to her parents, climbs all over them in bed, and eventually gets them to take her to her nursery for playtime. The process makes us exhausted just looking at it.
Add in the fact that the couple has three other kids, and we can imagine they’re pretty darn tired.
The good news? Plenty of followers have jumped in giving Krystiana permission to crack down on her baby’s sleeping habits. “Mom to mom,” said one, “Ferber method (a popular method of allowing babies to ‘cry it out’). Or, give her a bottle and put her back down and don’t talk.”
“Wait what?” said another. “You play with her at 2 a.m.? No way, it will be her routine.” Another agreed, “She wakes up because you play with her and don’t put her to bed.”
There are plenty more suggestions from parents, from putting the baby to sleep in her own room in complete darkness to totally ignoring the baby’s wake-ups until she falls back asleep. Almost unanimously, however, parents say it’s time to get a bit more strict with the little girl’s bedtime rules, for everyone in the house’s well-being.
“Unless the baby is crying and screaming, never get them out of their crib,” one commenter said. “They are safe and will eventually doze back off into sleep land. Don’t engage!”
