Getting a hot dog at the footy is a tradition as old as Aussie Rules itself, but a modern version of the classic has left many AFL fans unimpressed.

As part of a push to serve more options and higher quality food dishes at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, a fusion between the humble hot dog at the Vietnamese Bahn Mi has surfaced.

It has even been featured on the Australian-based Ahh Maa meal-kit service on TikTok, which was founded by father-and-daughter team Matt and Amy.

The channel shares traditional Asian family recipes inspired by Matt’s mother, who learned to cook in Saigon.

In the video, Amy hurriedly runs into frame showing her father the Banh Mi Hot Dog sold at Marvel Stadium.

'Look what I found, have you tried these? They've gone viral on Reddit,' she said.

The internet has been left divided by Banh Mi Hot Dogs being served at the footy at Marvel Stadium

'That's horrible,' he said, returning to his meal prep.

Amy then ropes in both her grandmother and father to try the actual hot dog banh mi's sold at the footy.

Matt's mother took one look at the hybrid and said 'I don't like'.

To her credit, she tried it anyway, declaring a simple 'no' as the verdict.

'I wouldn't pay for it,' Matt said.

'Out of 10, I like the slad, but the hot dog doesn't go, so three out of 10.

'Maybe if you are hungry at the footy you might eat it.'

It has also surfaced on the Facebook page Vietnamese Banh Mi Appreciation Society, where followers send in their experiences from around Australia and the world.

The reactions all told the same story.

'I'd call that a Temu Banh Mi ... it's a no from me,' one follower posted.

'Anyone who appreciates Banh Mi would not go within 10 foot of these bad boys,' added another.

'Italians see pineapple on pizza be acting the same,' suggested yet another.

There were some more accepting foodies on the viral Reddit thread, with several saying they would at least give it a go.

'As long as the Banh Mi isn't soggy and is crispy when you bite into it,' one follower commented.

However another fumed: 'You can’t just throw whatever you like into a roll, add shredded carrot and coriander and suddenly call it a Banh Mi.'
