The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a new feature in the official Aadhaar mobile app that allows residents to add or update their email address directly from their smartphones. The move eliminates the need to visit an Aadhaar enrolment centre for email address updates and is aimed at improving convenience and digital accessibility.

The new service became available from 1st July 2026 and will remain free for a limited period of 6 months on both Android and iOS devices.

With the latest update, Aadhaar users can now add or modify their registered email address directly through the official mobile application.

According to UIDAI, the initiative is part of the government’s Digital India vision to make essential identity services more accessible through secure digital platforms.

UIDAI says the feature has seen strong initial adoption, with over 250,000 email address updates completed within the first 48 hours of its rollout.

Registering an email address with Aadhaar provides several benefits, including:

• Real-time email alerts for Aadhaar authentication requests
• Improved transparency by tracking identity usage
• An additional security layer to help detect unauthorized authentication attempts
