WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new feature that will allow users to edit captions on their status updates after posting them. The feature is currently rolling out to a limited number of Android beta testers and is expected to reach more users in the coming weeks. According to a report by WABetaInfo, the feature is available with the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.26.30.1.

The new feature gives users up to 15 minutes after publishing a status to edit its caption. This allows users to fix spelling mistakes, update the text, or rewrite the caption entirely without deleting and reposting the status.

WhatsApp is reportedly offering two ways to access the editing option.

• Users can edit the caption directly from the My Status section by selecting the new Edit Caption option from the status menu.
• Alternatively, they can tap the pencil icon displayed next to the caption to make changes.

Once the 15-minute editing window expires, the caption can no longer be modified.

Unlike WhatsApp messages, which display an “Edited” label after being modified, edited status captions will reportedly not show any indication that changes have been made.

This means viewers will only see the latest version of the caption without knowing it was edited.

The feature is currently available only to select Android beta testers who have installed WhatsApp beta version 2.26.30.1 through the Google Play Store. As with other WhatsApp beta features, a wider rollout is expected if testing proceeds successfully.
