Members of All India Gig Workers Union, Visakha District Committee (CITU), demanded that the government take steps to provide security to delivery boys/workers and prevent attacks on them.
Addressing a press conference, president of All India Gig Workers Union B. Jagan said that three days ago, a delivery boy named Anil was assaulted and humiliated by a resident from a noted gated community at Seethammadhara. The resident was arrested following pressure from the fellow neighbouring boys and locals, he said. He also said that despite the heinous incident, none of the authorities from the food delivery app from Visakhapatnam have responded and consoled the delivery boy.
Mr Jagan said that strict laws should be made to protect the delivery boys from such attacks and incidents. He also said that despite working hard for entire day, the boys are not able to earn around ₹500. The government shoud provide job security and strengthen laws to safeguard delivery boys, he said.
