ProTec gets insurance licence; Irdai revamps key guidelines

MUMBAI: The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (Irdai) has granted a certificate of registration to ProTec General Insurance-making it the fourth insurance licence issued this year-and approved a sweeping set of reforms covering investment norms, capital infusion, intermediary registrations, policyholder protection, and regulatory enforcement.

The approvals were cleared at the regulator's meeting held in Hyderabad on July 28.

The regulator approved amendments to the actuarial, finance and investment regulations and the rules governing registration, capital structure, share transfers and amalgamations.

Irdai approved the Irdai (Policyholders' Education and Protection Fund) Regulations, 2026, operationalising the Policyholders' Education and Protection Fund created under the amended law.
