Wealthsimple is preparing to launch a new app this summer that will give Canadian retail investors limited access to prediction markets, where users can trade on the outcome of real‑world events – from interest rates to climate trends – through the U.S. platform Kalshi.

Jeff Derevensky, Professor Emeritus in McGill’s Department of Educational Psychology, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Psychiatry and Director of the International Centre for Youth Gambling Problems and High-Risk Behaviours, is available to speak about how prediction markets can blur the line between investing and betting, the potential for users to develop gambling-like behaviours, and the broader regulatory and public health considerations as prediction markets expand.
