Family members of a man fatally stabbed in Las Vegas told of the agonizing pain the killing has caused as they sought justice Thursday during a sentencing hearing for their loved one’s killer.

Tyshawn Abbott, mother of 29-year-old Cameronn Carson Jr., said her son’s death has impacted everyone in her family. She said she struggles daily to cope with relentless grief. Abbott said she wants her son to be remembered as the kind, caring person he was.

“He had his whole life ahead of him,” Abbott said. “He was a cherished son, brother, father, friend, and his absence leaves a permanent emptiness in all of our hearts.”

“The trauma of losing him has affected me physically, my physical and emotional well-being, and I struggle to find peace daily,” she said through tears.

Carson was killed by Ethan Robinson, 23, who was originally charged with murder in the killing at an apartment in the 300 block of East Silverado Ranch Boulevard near Gilespie Street. Police said Carson had spent the night at the apartment with a woman named Tyra Summers, who police identified as Robinson’s ex-girlfriend.

Summers told police she and Carson fell asleep in her bed before she awoke around 3 a.m. to a struggle between Carson and another person she said she did not see.

Summers told police that she lived alone, according to the report. She also denied being in a relationship and denied knowing anyone who would have been jealous over her relationship with Carson, police said.

But officers found men’s clothing, shoes, cologne bottles, and other items inside the apartment that police said contradicted her statements. Fingerprints lifted from the items matched those of Robinson’s, according to police. Robinson and the woman had also exchanged test messages from October to December, with a break in communications on the day of the stabbing, police said.

The day before, the report said, the couple had been in an argument and broke up after accusing each other of cheating.

“The messages continue throughout the day, and around 1700 hours, Tyra told Ethan not to come back to the apartment,” police said in the report. “Ethan stated, ‘u not finna keep me from coming to my house.’”

Summers replied to the message, sending a picture of two trash bags of what appeared to be Robinson’s clothing sitting on the sidewalk, police said. The stabbing happened hours later. Authorities said Robinson fled to California where he was later arrested.

Three kitchen knives were found inside the apartment — one at the top of the stairs and two inside the bedroom. At least two of the knives had blood on them, according to police. Police said they also found Robinson’s DNA in the blood trail coming from the apartment.

Robinson pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter with use of a deadly weapon in May. He was sentenced to six to 15 years in prison by District Court Chief Judge Tierra Jones. He apologized before he was sentenced, calling his behavior an overreaction.

“I do apologize for what happened,” he said.

“I do hope that the family … can find it in their heart to see I am a good person,” he said.

Multiple family members of Carson were in court for the sentencing. Some held photo collages documenting Carson’s life from when he was a child to adulthood. Carson’s sister, Cambria Carson, said her brother was “someone who mattered deeply.”

“I hope his life is remembered for who he was and not for how he died.” she said. “The sentence will not erase our pain, but accountability matters.”
