DANBURY —  A firefighter was hospitalized Wednesday after they were injured battling a garage fire on Cedar Crest Drive, officials said. 

Fire crews responded to the residence around 1:43 p.m. for a report of a structure fire in the area of Aunt Hack Road, according to the Danbury Fire Department. 

Crews arrived on scene to find an active fire in the home’s attached garage. Photos shared by the department show flames engulfing much of the garage as smoke billows into the sky. 

Officials said firefighters quickly initiated a transitional fire attack and successfully knocked down the bulk of the fire, effectively preventing the blaze from spreading into the home. 

However, one firefighter sustained minor injuries while operating at the scene and was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment, officials said. 

It was not immediately clear what caused the fire. Officials said the Danbury Fire Marshal's Office is now investigating the blaze.
