Protest to politics
The Cockroach Janta Party’s threat that fresh protests could erupt if the terms of the agreement with the government are not met may not find many takers, even among the youth and students. It should not be under the impression that all its protests will succeed. The ruling dispensation has the power to quell unrest.
Now that some political leaders have identified themselves with the CJP, it may develop a stronger political dependence for its survival. One would not be surprised if the CJP announces itself as a political party soon (Front page, July 28).

Restore trust
The Union Government’s decision to constitute a high-level task force is a welcome acknowledgment of the deep crisis of confidence surrounding India’s examination and higher education system. Equally reassuring is the appointment of Nandan Nilekani as its chair. His leadership in building Aadhaar and India’s digital public infrastructure demonstrates his ability to combine technological innovation with institutional reform. His vision can help the task force prepare India’s education system for the demands of a rapidly evolving knowledge economy. However, the committee’s success will depend on more than recommendations. The government must ensure transparent implementation, clear timelines, measurable outcomes, and regular public accountability to restore trust among millions of aspiring students.
