Game Of Thrones: War For Westeros, the Age of Empiresy RTS teeming with Targaryens and laced with Lannisters, has been delayed to 2027. Developers PlaySide have decided that while development's "progressing well", they need a bit more time to nail their strategical rendition of the Seven Kingdoms.

"War for Westeros will now launch in early 2027," the studio announced via their latest development update. "We remain unwavering in our mission to deliver a real-time strategy game set in the world of Westeros that meets the expectations of both RTS players and Game of Thrones fans. This decision gives us the time needed to continue building towards that goal and ensure that the game reaches the high level of quality we are aiming for."

Previously, the RTS had been pencilled in to arrive at some point in 2026 following its announcement last year.

Alongside the delay announcement, PlaySide have shown off some short clips of heroes like Jon Snow and Tywin Lannister activating abilities as they lead their sides into battle, with these key figures levelling up and serving as keys to victory via powerful abilities that give regular troops a kick up the backside. Some unit combat was also shown off, with cavalry charges and giant being able to decimate entire squads, unless you deploy a unit that can effectively counter these threats.

Finally, the studio offered a peek at Ashemark, a map in the Westerlands that's currently in the works. As one of the locations caught in Robb Stark’s campaign through the Westerlands during the War of the Five Kings, Ashemark offers a battlefield with strong ties to the conflict between Stark and Lannister forces," PlaySide wrote. "Designed as a focused 1v1 battlefield, Ashemark features two open lanes with defensible positions that create clear opportunities to pressure, hold, flank, and counterattack. It is also a strong example of how we are approaching visual fidelity across our maps, with environments designed to feel grounded in Westeros while still giving players readable spaces for army movement and combat."

That might be it for now, but the studio teased "more news and updates over the coming weeks, ultimately marching towards some exciting reveals later this year".
