The biggest sale of the year used to take place right after Christmas, but now retailers are cutting prices in Spring.

Last year, sunny spring weather boosted retail sales by 1.2 per cent in April, the biggest jump the UK had witnessed in four years.

With brighter days slowly making an appearance, retailers are now offering more incentives for shoppers to update their wardrobes.

Among those cutting prices in-store and online are Reiss, John Lewis, Boden and White Stuff.

Reiss, for a limited time only, has launched a sale across fashion, encouraging shoppers to kickstart their spring glow-up.

Standout items include the classic Satin Tuck-Detail Cape Midi Dress, down from £170 to £88, and the stylish Silk-Satin Concealed-Placket Shirt , priced at £148 from £218.

We've even spotted Zara Tindall's exact burgundy knee-high boots in the sale with a whopping 50% off.  

John Lewis is offering similarly impressive discounts, with savings on everything from trending womenswear items to everyday essentials.

And despite warmer days round the corner, the John Lewis sale might be a good time to prep ahead for the end of the year, with winter warmers seeing huge reductions, including a Single Breasted Wool Blend Coat, priced at £89 from £129

But if summer is the only thing on your mind, there's an elegant Editions Floral Applique Cold Shoulder Cotton Maxi Dress with over 50 per cent off at £75.

Shoppers can also inject a touch of colour to their wardrobe with the £36 Ramie Smocked Maxi Dress, down from £120.

At the same time, Boden has also followed suit with impressive discounts across summer-ready dresses, such as the £74.50 Zip Puff Sleeve Denim dress and the £89.40 Cecily Cotton Midi Dress.

For those planning a getaway in the near future, swimsuits are also on sale, including a £35.60 Giant Rik Rak Swimsuit, originally priced at £89.

White Stuff and Monsoon have also launched impressive discounts, with reductions spiralling to 60 per cent across womenswear, accessories, and footwear.

It comes after M&S appears to have taken a leaf out of Aldi and Lidl's books by drawing heavy inspiration from other labels to create its new and trending items.

Unlike the brands that M&S takes inspiration from, the pieces attracting shoppers are a fraction of the cost of the designer versions.

For instance, £56 chocolate brown penny loafers, which have sent shoppers into a frenzy after going viral on TikTok, are a dead ringer for Yves Saint Laurent's £935 pair.

With their similar soft suede material and ruched side detailing, the shoes are almost indistinguishable, except, of course, for the £879 price difference.

In an incredible turnaround, M&S is now worlds away from the days when the retailer's own CEO admitted their clothing was associated with a certain frumpiness.

Today, it serves as a prime example of how to meet consumer needs by accommodating the demand for newness with standout pieces and wardrobe builders.
